We
are a social help, non profit, non taxed legally constituted association in this country, officially called ALBERGUE INFANTIL DIOS ES AMOR (CHILDREN´S REFUGE "GOD
IS LOVE"). We work at the south end of Lima, at the Villa María
del Triunfo district, in a place called TABLADA DE
LURIN, providing help to the poorest families living in the surroundings. We
are 26 million people in this country, more than 50% are below poverty line and more than 15% live in extreme poverty. There are more than
2 million people living in prcarious conditions up in the andean region and the fringes of the big cities.How can we efficiently
help them to come out of poverty? Are asistentialist programs really the answer? How much have we advanced with
those programs aimed at generating development and employment? The
main goal at Dios es Amor is to provide integral help to tthe poorest families of this community,
aiming mainly to children, mothers and elderly people. Our
secon goal is to promote and generate resources for self development and self employment. Our
philosophy is for poor people to both be provided fish as well as being taught
to fish and shown where to make a sustainable catch. Whom we help? Who
are the poorest? Those who haven´t got a decent house to live in, those who haven´t got enough moneyto buy food, get
education and heal their children´s illnesses. Those are also the ones who haven´t got the strenght or have lost their
faith to keep fighting for life. Those who have lost hope and have no longer self esteem. We help them. How? a) Dios es
Amor provides help to different human groups according to their necessities. We do not make distintion of age, race, religion,
place of origin, language, etc. We also do not make religious, political or any other kind of proselitism. b) Dios
es Amor provides help in the following areas: food, education, health and recreation. i) FOOD:
We have a dining
room for free and daily meals for 60 people, a program of dinner for 40 children and teenagers,
refreshments for 120 elderly people during their weekly meetings and y lunch for more than 100 people when we hold medical and cleansing workdays. ii) EDUCATION: We have a daily program of educational assistance for children and teenagers at primary and secondary school
managed by the project personnel and with the aid of a diverse array of materials, bibliographic, audiovisual and Internet;
we also have another program of scolarships for 40 children under 12 with the
help of members of the group Harmony of the seniors group of the Miraflores City Council and a program of skills training for youngsters who have finished their secondary school studies. |

 How do we do
it? Our programs
are made possible with the contribution of friends and families from within the country and abroad and with the
work of people who with solidarity donate voluntarily their time.
